NK5000 is Kevlar^® fiber rope with an airtight jacket which has been developed by Barry to be used during the installation of OPGW on Hydro Quebec’s energized lines (735 kV) under wet conditions. It was initially designed for live-line stringing using the cradle-block method, but its excellent dielectric characteristics may enable it to be used as guy lines for transmission towers, helicopter longlines and short-haul lines for work in energized electrical environments, and other applications.

It is impervious to water and exhibits excellent dielectric properties under wet, dry, dusty, or salty conditions.

Electrical testing was performed at Rocwin Sales and Service Ltd. (May 2010) as per ASTM F1701-05 (Results: Passed wet and dry tests) and at IREQ (1996-1997) by M. Bourdages. Additional testing was performed by D. P. Wichmann, (Royal Australian Navy Australia) and T. K. Saha, (University of Queensland Australia).

Certified to ASTM F1701-05.

Diameter: 10 mm (3/8”) - Other sizes available on request
Break strength: 40 kN (9,000 lbf) results may vary depending on end terminations which can be swaged aluminum sleeves or mechanical terminations
Linear Density: 7.8 kg/100 m (5.2 lbs/100 ft)
Temperature: Remains flexible and does not crack at -40^oC
